Unicorns DO Exist

By Living Room Realty, April 25, 2018

About a month ago, I was contacted by a couple of first time buyers. A friend of theirs from work sent them my way; I’d sold him a house about six months before. They both grew up in the Willamette Valley but had left to travel and pursue performance careers.

Now wanting to set down some deeper roots, they’d come back PDX and were in serious house-hunting mode. So serious, they’d given notice at their current apartment for the end of April – and I was the first agent they met with – EVER! And they had never looked at any houses! The guys had some other specific needs like their zero down home loan, their closing costs covered and a budget of three-hundred thousand or less. I tried to communicate with them that these conditions were all very difficult to find in one place and what was their back-up plan if we couldn’t find this needle in a haystack. (I was so afraid these guys were going to be out on the street at the end of April and this seemed an impossible find!)

They leapt in full steam ahead. We saw six homes together the next Saturday and the very last one was the one for them! We moved swiftly and shrewdly with our offer to make sure these guys got what they’d been looking for. But I think much of it had to do with a a very sweet letter they submitted. Part of which said,”We hope to bring our little family out to Happy Valley (love this name) and become a part of the culture in this neighborhood of quiet contentment. I truly hope that we can create our forever home here on Spencer Drive. We love animals and have two Shih Tzu’s and two kitties; we think this yard is MEANT for our little babies. I had a connection with the property, the house and the people who have come before us.”

They got it. And as it turns out, we got a price reduction. They closed with 4 days to spare before they had to be out of their apartment.

They told me unicorns do exist.
