Family Migration

By Cristen Lincoln, April 15, 2020

Meg loved living in Brooklyn, New York. She loved the people, the food, the local estate sales and having her brother Mike and his partner Diego just around the corner. She thought she would never leave the vibrant city where she and her boyfriend Darren were creating a life together working in publishing.

However, Mike and Diego were looking for a simpler life and a shot at homeownership 3,000 miles away here in Portland. Meg was definitely curious about Portland too and was excited for her brother to start a new chapter in a new city even if it meant leaving New York. Around this same time Darren was offered a big promotion at work. The only catch was the job was in rural Pennsylvania. Now, they too were leaving the big city behind.

Mike and Diego settled quickly into an awesome bungalow in NE Portland and Meg came out to visit and immediately and saw why they loved it so much. The visit definitely got Meg’s wheels turning. Even their Dad Rick was considering moving out west from New Hampshire. Within a year we were finding Dad a home close to Mike and Diego’s place.

Not even 6 months later we got the call that Meg would be following in her Dad and brothers footsteps, she was coming out west with Darren. The priority was to find a small house with tons of natural light and a good size back yard. Meg also wanted a bonus space like a basement or shed that could be finished and that she could add her own creative touches to. We found her and Darren just that and it’s just a short bike ride away from her dad and brother. We are so pleased that they all get to be in this amazing city together.
