Portland Veg Week Finale

By Bonnie Roseman, October 19, 2018

If only I could go out to eat three, or more, times a day this week. Veg Week is wrapping up on October 20th and there are so many dishes I have not had yet. Today and tomorrow I will fit in as many as possible of the twenty four featured Veg Week items.

What’s on the menu(s)

The options range from appetizing to the extraordinary and I really wish I could try them all. My mother mentioned cooking a pot of stew the other day and I told her to count me out for home cooking this week. My official Veg Week dining buddy, Susan, who, by the way is ahead of me in Veg Week visits, made clear that any extraneous eating this week was out of the question.

Pan-Fried Korean Rice Cakes in Kalamata Olive Black Bean Sauce

So here are my top two favorites so far, the rice cakes at Revelry in SE and the Carbonara at Ecliptic Brewing in North.

Zucchini Carbonara

I have also seriously enjoyed the Harvest Chili from Nightlight Lounge, the Chikn, Bakn, Ranch Wrap at Loyal Legion, the Calabacita Enchilada at La Panza, the Breakfast Muffin at DC Veg, the vegetable Ramen at Noraneko and assorted treats at Ichiza Kitchen & Tea House.

Pompoko Ramen at Ichiza Kitchen & Tea House

With just hours left, there are so many more places to go:

  • Aviv
  • Off the Griddle
  • Kim Jong Smokehouse
  • Yen Ha
  • Virtuous Pie
  • Aybla Mediterranean Grill
  • Papa G’s Vegan Organic Deli
  • No Bones Beach Club
  • Mississippi Pizza Pub & Atlantis Lounge
  • Grand Army Tavern
  • Water Avenue Coffee
  • Next Level Burger
  • Le Bistro Montage
  • Xico
  • Dinger’s Deli
  • Sasquatch Brewing Company (NW Taproom)

Bonus

At each stop I have enjoyed assorted sides, beverages and treats. A shout out to the gyoza at Ichiza, house-made ginger ale at Revelry and salted chocolate chip cookies at DC Veg.

Being vegan is amazing and rewarding. This week in Portland makes it even more exciting! Let me know which Veg Week items you have tried and what you thought.

The Culmination

This weekend is time for the Portland Vegfest, https://nwveg.org/vegfest-event-info/, to finish off this week of plant based  delight! I hope to see you there.
