Excellence Awards: Alex Phan

There is an old saying; If you need something done, ask a busy person to do it. Alex Phan is someone who gets things done. Along with leading his team to place consistently in the top 1% of successful brokers in the city, his list of volunteer activities is exhaustive. Alex could easily use his free time to play, travel, and simply enjoy the successful career he has built, but that is not where his heart is. He is out doing the thankless work the rest of us enjoy the benefits of – Volunteering for PMAR as PAC Trustee, Board Member, Local Director, Masters Circle Vice President, and YPN Committee Chair. He is also working at the state level to raise the bar in our industry and to promote diversity and inclusion. He has served on the Executive Committee, Diversity Key Committee, and served as State Director. He is currently running for President-elect of the Oregon Association of Realtors. In addition, he has served in many positions for AREAA PDX, NARAB, Home Plate Youth Services, and on the Clean Water Services advisory commission.

We will learn from Alex:

  • How to be strategic with your time to maximize your potential and enjoy balance and a home life away from work.
  • How giving back makes his life and business more satisfying and robust.
  • How to structure a team to deliver the ultimate client experience, while allowing time for team members to pursue other interests.
  • What it takes to grow a sustainable business in today’s market and climate.

From the AHC website:

“Philip Johnson (1906 – 2005), was one of the more influential American architects and architectural critics of the 20th century. But before Johnson had even designed his first building, he served as the first director of the Department of Architecture and Design for the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. During this time, he introduced several notable European architects to the United States including Mies van der Rohe and Le Corbusier, coining the term “International Style” along the way. Johnson was also known for his ongoing critique of American architects, in particular Frank Lloyd Wright.

Our presenter, Jim Varner, examines the extraordinary life and work of Philip Johnson, winner of the very first Pritzker Prize for Architecture and a Gold Medal from the American Institute of Architects. In addition to a survey of noted Johnson designs, along the way you’ll also learn about Johnson’s time in 1930s Germany, as well as his involvement right here in Portland, with the selection of Michael Graves’ design of the always-controversial Portland Building.”
