From the first time we met, I knew I would love spending time with Kristyn and Shoe. They are a smart, creative and hardworking couple who have traveled extensively and were looking to move back to a more urban lifestyle they embraced during stints in Paris and beyond. After reinventing their extremely rare mid-century perched on the Overlook ridge they were ready for condo living.

While Kristyn was pursuing her PhD, they lived in several large European cities. During that time without a car they fully embraced city life, shopping for groceries at small markets and having various restaurants and shops within steps of their home. After years on the bluff they started to miss the accessibility and ease of city life, and realized they were ready to fully embrace downtown living, so the Pearl called.

We set out to find a condo in the Pearl District with notable outdoor space and unique interior finishes. I had mentioned early on in the process that there was one building I thought would be perfect for them, the Modern Confectionery Lofts. My mention of the building came with a quick disclaimer that it’s a smaller building and the 7 units (only 3 rooftop) rarely come up for sale. As luck would have it, just a month or so after we started our search, the best unit in the building hit the market. Shoe and Kristyn had a connection to the space immediately and we were under contract 24 hours later.

It has been an absolute blast helping Shoe and Kristyn find the perfect condo for this next phase in their life. I am anxiously anticipating how they will personalize the space with their incredible taste and will be front and center in the coming weeks as their MCM hits the market!

An Alameda Mansion?

As I came home from work on a rainy Tuesday evening, I couldn’t wait to inform my family that I had successfully negotiated the purchase of one of Alameda’s most noteworthy properties. Collaboration with the other agent was seamless and an honest and transparent approach was well received by the sellers. Just weeks before they had been cut loose by a prior buyer so the initial dialogue was a bit tense, but I turned it around quickly.

That prior buyer’s loss was our gain and after successfully getting through negotiations for my client, my wife and I decided to show the home to our 8 year old daughter. Her reply was hilarious. She said, “That is huge! Is that a mansion?” We quickly told her it was a “Big old house,” and not necessarily a mansion. While I knew the home was special, seeing the awe and shock in an 8 year old’s eyes was priceless.  After many years in this business and many successful negotiations, this will be one that I hold dear.

I am thrilled to start out the new year by helping Tessa and Hayley purchase their first home. After wrapping up their doctorate work and related training they decided to make Portland their home.  Tessa is a professor at PSU and I was honored when one of her colleagues, a past client of mine, referred them my way.

Tessa and Hayley shared with me their desire for privacy, and ideally a home that was perched among the trees. Portland has a handful of pockets that feature these types of homes, however they are by no means common.

As luck would have it, we struck gold early when we discovered “Ormandy” in the first weeks of our search. After touring this contemporary southwest home for a second time, Hayley and Tessa were certain this was the place for them. It had some projects they were game to tackle, while giving them the bones and space to turn the key and settle in comfortably right away.
