Lavender Fields Forever!

Drink up the sun.

Summer is the season for a bounty of lavender flowers and that makes it the perfect time to try your hand at making homemade lavender tincture. A few drops of this delightful mixture transforms any drink into a crafted cocktail.

Bring your lavender dreams to life.

Gather a bundle of culinary-grade lavender and cut the excess stems off the flowers. Fill a large canning mason jar about 2/3 full of fresh lavender flowers. Top off the flowers with high proof alcohol. I used 80 proof Vodka for the high alcohol content, neutral flavor, and low price.

Be sure to use enough liquid to cover the flowers. Close the jar with a lid and place it in a cool, dark place. Every day you’ll need to shake the jar for about a minute. After two weeks, open the jar and check the fragrance.

Once you have a nice strong lavender fragrance you can strain out the flower debris and decant the tincture into storage jars. I’ve used coffee filters, cheesecloth, or muslin fabric for straining out the flowers.

I like to store it in dropper bottles so it’s easy to drop a bit of flavor into a cocktail. Dark tinted glass bottles are recommended to help preserve tinctures.

If you’re interested in visiting a lavender field to gather your own fresh blooms, you can check out Wayward Winds Lavender Farm in Newberg, OR. Their fields are scheduled to open July 1st with free admission.

Congratulations Dovina and Leonard!

It was just meant to be!

If you know me, you know that I love helping people make a move. I love my peeps and I’m super committed to getting my clients into the home of their dreams. I will negotiate until my face turns blue and call every contractor in town to get information for my clients. I am committed to making this a great experience but unfortunately, you can’t always control how things go? For instance, I can’t make a seller accept an offer. I just can’t.

So here’s the short version of one of my all-time favorite stories 🙂

Leonard and Dovina really wanted to live in Newberg to be close to their daughter and grandchildren. Last spring and summer, we looked at just about everything that Newberg had to offer. It’s not unusual for the search to take a little longer when you’re looking in a small and popular town, like Newberg. After months of looking, they found a gem, a darling house that is close to downtown with a cute yard and great character! It quickly became competitive and we pulled out all of the stops. Long story short, Len & Dovina’s offer was the highest with exceptional terms, but in the end still beat out by a lower cash offer because they totally waived the inspection period. I just can’t ever recommend that a buyer waive all inspections.

It just wasn’t meant to be is what we told ourselves. That’s what we have to say sometimes to make sense of things when it doesn’t go the direction we would like. But this one kept nagging at us! We continued to look in Newberg for another year and kept comparing every house to the ‘one that got away’.  …And then it came back! Almost exactly a year later it popped back up and wouldn’t you know it, we put it in an offer and got it this time!

Cheers to my lovely friends, Leonard and Dovina! I wish them all the best in their home that was definitely meant to be!

Newberg Spotlight: Champoeg State Heritage Park

Newberg Spotlight: Champoeg State Heritage Park

Champoeg State Heritage Park

Just south of Newberg lies the Champoeg State Heritage Area, a glimpse into a bygone era or Oregon history. Filled with forests, wetlands, and fields, this park is a beautiful place to explore.

This area was where Oregon’s first provisional government was formed by a historical vote in 1843, and a small thriving town of 200 was also founded here. A flood wiped away the original town, however the history of this area earned it a place on the National Register of Historical Places.

Paved walkways make for lovely strolling and bike riding through the park, white the river is a haven for kayakers. You can also fish the Willamette river right from the dock. There is an 18-hole disc golf course, and plenty of scenic picnic spots. It’s a lovely place to visit for the day, but if you want to stay there are multiple camping options.

For more info about camping or additional amenities, visit the official website HERE. Enjoy the beauty and history of a true treasure in Oregon!

Helping the whole family move to Newburg

I’ve know Amelia since she was around 10 years old. God, that makes me feel a little old! I saw her grow up and celebrated with her, Brad and the whole family at their wedding a few years back. I attended to their baby shower and adore their little bean, Charlotte. And just this month, I had the honor to help them achieve another milestone in their life, buying the first home! I have to say we had some fun even in the middle of a pandemic!

We honed in on Newberg pretty early on and there was no looking back. Newburg is a wonderful place for this family because they love the schools and the smaller town feel. Next, I’m helping her parents move from Bull Mountain to Newberg so they can all be close to one another.

Congratulations to Brad, Amelia and Charlotte, you are like family to me!

House Hunting Adventures Gone Right

What happens when you aren’t from Portland? You look at homes in your price range wherever they may be! Think NE Portland, SE Portland, SW Portland, Milwaukee, Oregon City, Sherwood, Tigard, Woodburn, Canby, Gervais and Newberg. It was a whirlwind of house hunting with these two but it was nothing short of adventurous. We saw gigantic spiders, ceilings that were too short for us, tires that were taller than us, a LOT of wall paper, a little mary jane and had our first experience with an Opendoor home.

Patrick and Sarah decided on a cute Newberg ranch in a nice neighborhood, close to the aquatic center. With a little love this will be a darling home for them. They plan to put in new floors and carpet, paint the interior and remodel bathrooms before moving in. These two have big plans for their life: grad school, getting married, and owning a lot of real estate are just a few of them. They are smart and fun, easy going and kind.

It’s clients like Patrick and Sarah that remind me why I love being a REALTOR®®. I will adventure with you guys anytime!!!
