Pride celebrations are kicking off all over the country. At Living Room, we kicked off Pride with a celebration including rainbow-inspired, plant-based food, a jazz trio, and lots of merriment! And this was all before 9:30 in the morning! We also had an impactful presentation from local lender, Percy Wise about the experiences of LGBTQIA+ buyers, sellers, and homeowners.

HOT GINGER APPLE CIDER, HOT LEMON GINGER TODDY, AND GINGER-SPICE HOT COCOA are three amazing drinks to keep you warm while we wait for Spring. These healthy and simple drinks all start with ginger and water… see the directions below:

HOT LEMON-GINGER TODDY:
Slice up a hunk of ginger and cover and simmer in 2 cups water for 20 minutes, strain, add freshly squeezed lemon juice or lemon slices to taste, and add honey for a bit of sweetness – serves two.
GINGER-SPICE HOT COCOA:
Slice up a hunk of ginger and cover and simmer in 2 cups water for 20 minutes, strain, add one cup of plant-based milk, whisk in cocoa powder, and sweeten with maple syrup and cinnamon – serves two.
HOT GINGER-APPLE CIDER:

Like last summer, we may need to get creative about how we keep cool this summer, try these old school, no ac ideas and keep it cool in your house.

1. Keep blinds, windows, and doors closed during the day

2. Adjust your ceiling fans if they are rotating clockwise (counter-clockwise actually moves air around better)

3. Place a shallow bowl of ice water in front of your standing fans

4. Open as many windows and doors in the evening as possible

5. Close off hotter sections of your house by putting up heavy cloths, or blankets. (We know…not so pretty, but it can really keep out the heat).

“On March 3, 2022, the US District Court for the District of Oregon put an injunction on the enforcement of Oregon’s new law requiring seller’s agents to reject “Love Letters” from buyers.  While the injunction is in place, the Oregon Real Estate Agency will not be enforcing the law and Oregon real estate licensees are not required to follow it.

However, regardless of the new law, Love Letters continue to present risks related to Fair Housing violations.  If a seller were to select or reject a buyer based on the buyer’s protected class information revealed in a love letter, that would be a violation of fair housing laws…The best way to mitigate the risk is to not use love letters in the first place.”

Block Parties + Street Murals!

The Portland bureau of Transportation (PBOT) recently unveiled two new permit programs. The first program, call Healthy Blocks, allows Portlanders to apply for free permits to provide more space for neighbors to walk, roll, bike, play, and socialize physically distanced. Additionally, the Bureau is reintroducing street painting permits which allow Portlanders to paint large, decorative murals directly on the street to beautify neighborhoods and build community. Love Letters No More – A New Rule in Real Estate

House Bill 2550 just passed in the Oregon house and states that no longer will letters to the Seller or “love letters” be allowed to be submitted with an offer. It finds that these letters can undermine fair housing laws. As of January 1, 2022, Buyers will need to let their offers speak for itself.

Here’s a bit more from Oregon REALTORS:

“The bill requiring seller’s agents to reject buyer love letters, House Bill 2550, passed the House this week after Oregon REALTORS® worked to amend the bill in the Senate to make it easier to comply with. Oregon is the first state in the U.S. to take this step to reduce the likelihood that sellers will discriminate against buyers based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, marital status, or familial status.”
